Like cordless phones some home security camera systems use the 2.4 Ghz frequency range to transfer information. This higher frequency range is more secure and difficult to interfere with.

Generally black and white cameras are less expensive then color cameras. While this does make sense, color cameras are not as sensitive, or as good at night as black and white ones. If there is a lot of light in the area being monitored then a color camera may perform well, but it is still recommended that a black and white camera be used at night. There are a few companies out there offering a special filter that allows a camera to function as color during the day and black and white at night.
