Home security monitoring
While it may seem like home security monitoring is something done by an electronic device really the bigger part o the job is taken care of trained staff at a central control center. Of course part of home security monitoring is the high tech equipment that monitors what’s going on in a client’s home, but when the alarm sounds it’s the people on the other end that keep us safe.
The concept behind a home security monitoring system is quite genius. The company’s staff works remotely from a central monitoring office. All of your homes security signals are monitored via a secure control panel installed in a safe area of your home. The control panel is connected via a telephone line and when it receives a signal from a sensor or a magnetic switch it alerts the central monitoring office. This action is completed via the telephone line and an automatic dialing system.
Once the control panel notifies the central monitoring station someone will call the customers home. To ensure the caller is speaking with the home owner they will request the customer’s password. If the caller does not receive the correct password or the call is not answered they alert the local police. However if the correct password is given the alarm will be switched off.
Home security monitoring is tricky business though; companies are required to notify police in less than 45 seconds, after an alarm goes off. The problem is that if it’s a false alarm the police will show up when it’s not necessary.
Of course there is always the chance that a home owner will set off their own alarm. This action can be corrected by entering a password and shutting off the alarm. However the home owners time for this is limited, generally it’s 30 too 45 seconds.
When considering a home security monitoring company larger companies generally own their own monitoring stations. While smaller companies will use a third-party to provide their home security monitoring services. All of these third-parties are required to meet standards set out, but this generally causes smaller providers to charge higher rates.
Several security companies insist on a cell phone backup to filter out false alarms. This is because the control panel will alert the central monitoring station if the regular phone line is not working. The security center will first call up the key holder to check. The authorities will only be notified if it is found that someone has tampered with the phone line.
Some companies suggest you have a cell phone number on file for backup, and to help reduce false alarms. If your phone line goes dead, or is disconnected the control panel will alert the central monitoring station. The station will first call the key holder to check the situation. Police will only be called if it's discovered that someone has damaged or cut the phone line.
Overall home security monitoring is a great service, it’s like having someone else watching over your home 24x7. Having another person watching and calling the appropriate authorities if anything goes wrong is priceless in a situation where it’s needed.
